Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange is a local, family-owned business based in Texarkana, TX that specializes in buying and selling gold and silver bullion and coins. We also buy gold and silver jewelry, providing our customers with a trustworthy, face-to-face transaction process.

However, we do not sell jewelry or deal in paper currency, base metal coins (like pennies or nickels), or non-precious metal items. We offer competitive prices, transparent processes, and exceptional customer service, making us the go-to destination for all your gold and silver needs.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, the value of the gold and silver items we sell is determined based on several factors:

  • Current Market Price: The price of gold and silver fluctuates with the market, and we align our prices with the spot price at the time of sale. This ensures that you are getting an accurate, up-to-date value for the metals.
  • Purity and Weight: The purity and weight of the item play a major role in pricing. For bullion and coins, the gold or silver content is the primary driver of value. We ensure all items are accurately tested and labeled for their purity (measured in karats for gold or as a percentage for silver).
  • Type of Product: Whether you’re purchasing bullion bars, coins, or collectible items, the type and form of the gold or silver can affect the price. Rare coins or limited-edition products may carry a premium over the metal content alone due to their rarity and collectibility.
  • Condition and Demand: For numismatic items, the condition and demand in the collector’s market also impact pricing. Rare or highly sought-after coins in excellent condition may be priced higher due to their added collectible value.

Our pricing is always competitive and reflects the current market conditions, ensuring you receive fair value for your purchase.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we do not offer discounts for bulk sales. This is because we already offer competitive pricing on all our gold and silver bullion and coins. Our goal is to provide fair, market-based prices for all customers, whether you’re making a small purchase or a larger one.

If you have any questions about our pricing or would like to learn more about current market rates, feel free to contact us or visit us in-store!

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we focus solely on gold and silver. We do not buy pennies, nickels, or paper currencies, as they are not made from precious metals. Our primary interest is in gold and silver bullion, coins, and jewelry. If you have genuine gold or silver items, we would be happy to evaluate them for you.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we buy gold and silver items, including:

Additionally, we do not buy paper currency, base metal coins (such as pennies or nickels), costume jewelry, or items not made of real gold or silver. At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we use a combination of factors to determine the value of your gold and silver items:

  • Current Market Price: We assess the value of gold and silver based on the spot price at the time of the transaction. Since market prices fluctuate daily, the spot price plays a critical role in determining the value.
  • Purity and Weight: For gold and silver items, we evaluate the purity (measured in karats for gold or as a percentage for silver) and the weight of your items. This includes thorough testing to confirm the authenticity of your metals.
  • Condition and Rarity: In the case of coins or rare bullion, we also take into account the condition, rarity, and collectibility of the item, which can add additional value beyond the metal content.
  • Transparent Testing Process: We utilize sophisticated testing equipment, such as XRF (X-ray fluorescence) and acid testing, to ensure the purity of the metal. Our testing process is open and transparent, and we’re happy to explain each step to you.

Once all these factors are evaluated, we offer you a competitive price based on the current market conditions and the specifics of your items.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we use a detailed and transparent testing process to authenticate gold, silver, coins, and jewelry. Our evaluation includes:

  • Visual Inspection: We check for hallmarks, stamps, or identifying marks that indicate purity, weight, and origin.
  • Magnet Test: Since genuine gold and silver are non-magnetic, a magnet test helps us quickly identify items that might contain base metals.
  • Weight Verification: We weigh the item to ensure it matches the expected weight for its type, which is crucial for authenticity.
  • Sophisticated Testing Equipment: We use advanced tools such as precious metal analyzer machines to accurately assess the composition and purity of the metal.
  • Scratch and Acid Testing: For further verification, we use a scratch test in combination with acid testing to confirm the metal’s purity. This involves applying acid to a small scratch on the item to observe its reaction with the metal, ensuring the gold or silver content is genuine.
  • Thorough Research: For rare coins and bullion, we perform detailed research to verify their authenticity, history, and market value.

Throughout this process, we ensure complete transparency and explain each step, providing you with a fair and competitive offer based on current market prices.

Absolutely! At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we prioritize transparency and integrity. We encourage you to ask questions and seek clarification about the testing methods and appraisal process for your gold or silver items. We are happy to provide detailed information to ensure you have full confidence in the value we assign to your items.

We understand time constraints, so if you're short on time, you can leave your items with us during the evaluation process. We will securely store them and notify you when the evaluation is complete. You’re welcome to return at your convenience to discuss the results and next steps. Our goal is to make the entire process as smooth, transparent, and comfortable as possible.

If you have a large number of items, we recommend calling ahead to schedule an appointment. This will help us ensure that the process is efficient and uninterrupted, giving your collection the attention it deserves.

We accept cash and credit card payments. Credit card transactions are limited to $500 and include a 3.6% processing fee. Please note that all payments must be made in-store, and we are unable to take payment information over the phone.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we have a policy of not conducting transactions exceeding $10,000 with the general public. This policy is in place for several important reasons:

  • It helps us avoid the administrative burden and complexity associated with large cash transactions and IRS reporting requirements, such as Form 8300.
  • From a business standpoint, it allows us to manage our cash flow effectively and ensures that our inventory levels remain balanced, allowing us to serve more customers efficiently.
  • This policy also ensures full compliance with all Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and helps us maintain transparency in our business practices.

No, we do not offer shipping services at Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange. All purchases must be made in-store and cannot be shipped. We believe in providing a personalized and secure experience for our customers, which is why we require all transactions to be conducted on-site.

At Twin City Gold & Silver Exchange, we don’t offer returns or exchanges at the original purchase price due to fluctuations in the market. However, we are happy to consider buying back your items based on the current market rates, which may be higher or lower than the price at which they were originally purchased.

Please note that buybacks are not guaranteed, as we make decisions based on the inventory needs of the store at the time of the request. Feel free to reach out to us for more information or to discuss potential buyback options for your items.
